And the real winter began!

Since the past week we began to have a real sense of winter here in Italy, or at least in my living zone. We didn't have any snow during Christmas holidays and some of us already thought we were safe from a hard work of ploughing snow...eh? They were wrong, snow didn't visit us before but it only got some delay. And since a couple of days ago, we realised that we weren't safe from a real winter at all as the temperature began to go down and down. Finally we're living a freezing week of -10°c and even below!! I sincerely don't love cold weather even a bit but when it's time..it's time! Awwwwww....is this the beginning of the famous 2012 profecy?? Let's cross the fingers ;)

This morning when my boy went to school, I saw a very lovely scene and I couldn't help catching a picutre. Don't you think it's a perfect one for the month of "love"?

Caught just in time: a lovely picture of Nanà

Hello readers!
After being absent for a while, I just wanted to keep my blog alive by posting a lovely picture: my sweetie cat with beautiful poinsettia in the background. It's not easy taking a good photo of my cat Nanà. She doesn't stay still in front of the camera.

I've got a new tool in my kitchen. It's WAFFLE MAKER!!! Yes, I longed for it since a long time but never got one for the reason of fear to gain weight!! I just came across a big promotional sale, so I couldn't help grabbing it. I don't try it yet...how could I?? At the moment we're pampering ourselves with loads of pre-Christmas sweets. However, sooner or later it'll be done ;-)

Anyone has noticed another blog of mine? I decided to write "seriously" a Thai blog for Thai readers with the purpose of trying and practicing my writing skill, for one day my dream of publishing my own book might come true. This's only a kind of experiment, hoping to get more inspiration.

Have a great time, everyone!

Our Christmas tree

We put up our X'mas tree yesterday afternoon. This year we picked up the white & red theme. Our 11-year-old boy was of great help. We're looking forward to seeing the gift boxes below ;-) Our boy has become a young guy now and he made us know last summer that he knew who has been the Santa Claus...oopps! Therefore, no more letter but he somehow looks happy to ask for the gift directly to his real Father Christmas.

Welcoming autumn with my blooming sunflowers

Summer's gone, I almost lost my hope to see the sunflowers I planted about 2 months ago. There were two plants, given by one of my friends. One died after some weeks but another survived. Its growth has been very slow, but it seemed to resist. It worked out several buds but they didn't develop much. Around the end of summer, I thought they would hardly bloom...but finally they worked out so well! My friend said it was a particular type of sunflowers. Look at the pictures! Their petals are very tiny and they look like round soft pon-pon.

I just wanna offer these beautiful creatures as a virtual gift for everybody ◕‿◕

When Nanà is "home alone"!

Who has read my older posts would know who is Nanà. She's our 4-year-old Birman cat. She has quite particular characters. Normally cats are independent. Ours instead needs someone to stay with. Actually it's said the Birman cats are very proper to who need a pet as companion.

I noticed her behavior when I was packing stuffs before going away in a weekend. I pulled out a big baggage, she turned around and around and sniffed. The next morning we went to my mom-in-law's house on mountain. My in-laws already arrived there the day before. We left Nanà at home because, from the previous experiences, she suffers a lot the trip, strangers and the new environment. Moreover, we were mostly obliged to close her in the loft in order that she couldn't stray in relatives' apartments or go down to the neighbour's garden. So we concluded that it'd much better leaving her home when we go away for only a weekend.

It happened that the next Monday, I was packing stuffs again to go for a short holiday at sea. When I pulled out the 2 baggages, she came close to me. Each time I put a piece of clothes there, she bited my hands, trying to impede me. We quarreled for a while but, becoming impatient, I stopped doing the baggage and went to another room. She followed me and was still biting my feet. I thought she's gone mad! That night, she slept on one of the baggages. Incredible! She understood we were leaving her home again.

This time yet, my in-laws took care of her. They told us on the phone that Nanà was angry with them. Anything they did for her never satisfied her; giving food, brushing her fur, etc. It seemed she did go mad. The day we arrived home, she finally stayed calm and returned normal. My in-laws said they almost couldn't stand aggressivity. How come! Nanà's used to stay with them. She might not want us to leave home.

Thai New Year's Day, Apr. 14th

I lately had a pause in the blog, having so many things to keep up with each day, but I did find time to post some brief news.

How many people in the world know that in Thailand we celebrated our New Year's Day in mid April?? Yes, according to our calendar, not only in Thailand but also in Burma, Cambogia and Laos, April 14th is the beginning of the year! We call it "Songkran" which means the entry of the sun into any sign of the Zodiac. From 13th to 15th are regularly natinal holidays. As tradition, people go home to celebrate with their family. We have a partucular and funny festival. Everywhere people splash water to each other, no one minds to get wet. Tourists too enjoy to play with the Thai's. It's really a pleasure as water helps cooling down the temperature (it's the hottest month of the year).

Moreover, there're some Buddhist rites in temples and traditionally we pay respect to the oldest family members or the olderlies in the villages so as to be blessed by them.

At Rome, the abbassy of Thailand certainly set up a celebration for Thai people in Italy. This year, it's quite special for me because a Uni friend of mine came to visit Italy. I and other 3 Uni friends (who stay in Itlay for work, another one for family like me and the last one for a study) all met at Milan. We did had a great day on the Songkran Day.

Before leaving, I just wanna show our gorgeous orchid flower. This's the 1st time we reached out to save an orchid plant!

HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE !!!

Spring is in the air

Since one week ago, I haven't been fine. Firstly I had got a terrible pain in my back and left shoulder. I could hardly move for 2 entire days, it was badly painful. Then I caught the symptoms of hay fever, yes it's spring! I had been caughing unceasingly day and night. I found a syrup of my son in the cupboard, so I had it for several times and finally I went to see the doctor. I used to begin to take the antihistamines in mid April each years but this year I have to start it this early!

Today I went to visit a friend of mine who lives in the town next to mine. It's a countryside where there are cultivated fields and industries, the ones next to the others. Many houses own cherry trees and they're now flowering all together. I love the cherry blossoms very much (as you can see from my page background!). I took a photo of one which stands proudly in front of a house. This is awesome and I just think why can't we have a gorgeous one like this?!

Well, I feel a bit exhausted (which is the side effect of the medicine and may be the first warm sunny days as well). My family and friends at Bangkok told me that they're having such a weird weather. It's incredibly cold down there, about 13-15 °c instead of 35 °c as it should be in this period. April is normally the hottest month of the year but they're afraid they may have so few degrees. There're uncommon floods in the South of Thailand at the moment. The earth is changing in an unexpected way, so we must learn to keep up with the circumstances.

E' molto appassionata e preparata in cucina.

Remodelling my blog

In these days I've been trying to change the appearance of my blog. Who has visited it several times at this period must have seen the continuous changing of the page's background image. The cool thing is that I found an accessory for webpages by chance and I got crazy of it! It's a hanging Japanese chime, moving as if blown by a slight wind and producing a bell sound. I love these wind chimes very much! We've one hanging behind a door inside the house. I find the bell sound very pleasant and relaxing but I avoid hanging it outside for the reason that the sound (that will contunue in the windy days) can disturb our neighbours as they aren't used to it.

When I saw this gadget, I decided that I "must" absolutely insert it in my blog! Well, it needed much effort for me as the website of this wonderful thing was in Japanese languages. I helped myself by Google translator at the first step, then guessing which code could be the right one. I tried and tried to copy & paste all the possible codes but nothing happened. At the end, I called my personal technician; my husband. (Why didn't I asked him to do it at first? It was simply because I was so stubborn that I wanted to make it done by myself!) In only some minutes, after modifying the Html of the page, he succeeded! Finally I was so happy to get the Japanese wind chime, that changes the designs automatically each time, at the right top of my blog.

After that, the old template wasn't fine anymore. The next thing was seeking for a perfect page design that could get along with my new wind chime!!! I've been looking for many Japanese-themed wallpapers, changing it for a lot of times and for now I think the Japanese cherry blossoms are ok. However, don't be surprised if any time you see different themes!!!

Do you speak Chinese?

The question people asked me most frequently during these eleven years of my life in Italy is: "Are you Chinese?". Obviously my aspect says that I'm more or less Chinese. Moreover, Italian people aren't able to distinguish well the particulars of facial aspects among different Asian nations. They often think only of China and Japan.

Judging from my eyes' shape, people think I'm Chinese with no doubt. Even Chinese ones greet me in Chinese. Several times at the train stations, Chinese people who might not speak Italian came to me speaking a lot in Chinese but I had to reply them "I'm sorry, I don't speak Chinese", leaving them disappointed because they were looking for someone to ask for help. When I enter any Chinese groceries for the 1st time, the shopkeepers looked into my eyes and they had an expression like they doubted if I was Chinese and I returned an expression in my face like saying that I was not. I found no need to tell them that I'm Chinese when I don't speak the language, and have never been to the country either. However, in the Chinese restaurant where I and my husband frequented in the first year of my arrival, the waitress told me that I had the cantonese accent when I spoke. I said "well, I'm Cantonese indeed."

To the question: "Are you Chinese?", generally asked by the Italian, my answer isn't always "Yes" or "No". It depends on the situation. For those who don't know who I'm but they talk to me only to exchange some words in a local or a supermarket and very probably I'll not meet them again, I just simply say that I'm Thai. Many people know Thailand by beautiful beaches so they say: "Oh, you come from such a splendid place!". Some of them instead don't have much idea about the country, neither where it's situated. They immagine Thailand as a poor land where people live in misery catching animals and fishing as they used to see some kinds of documentaries about tribes at the Northern border of the country. Once, an old man asked me how I could contact my parents, and if they owned a telephone. Although I tried my best to describe Bangkok, where I come from, the old man seemed to commiserate about me. Well, I just let it be.

When it's a case, such as to friends, my husband's relatives, or whoever seems to be interested in knowing more about me, I like to explain my origin. It's not that complicated but to say if I'm Chinese or not, it needs a little bit of explanation. I was born at Bangkok, Thailand, so I've 100% Thai nationality. My parents too were born in Thailand and they're Thai. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents were born in China and they lived their youth there. They moved to Thailand as many Chineses did because at that time they could have more freedom in Thailand. My grannies settled down at Bangkok. They worked hard to get stability and gained Thai citizenship.

My parents and relatives always speak Cantonese among them. I understanded it fairly but never tried to speak it. My mom often told me, my brother and sister that one day we would regret not wanting to learn Cantonese. Well, she was right. Now that I forgot most of Cantonese words I feel a pity. Once an office where I applied for a job called me for an interview believing that I knew Chinese language. They said they assumed that Thai and Chinese languages would be similar. Many times my Italian friends asked me if I could translate a Chinese writing. I think that Chinese language is very difficult and I would never reach out to learn it. I once took Japanese lessons in my university but I stopped after one semester because I realised that it was not for me. I did better in European languages.

At this point. I suppose I did give a clear idea of my origin. Now I also own the Italian citizenship but I feel weird to say I'm Italian (although I use my Italian passport to travel).

The first day of the year

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!!!
The old year has gone, let good memories follow us in the new year and leave the dull ones behind.
Don't regret too much your mistakes, but don't forget them as they're your teacher.

I just spent my first day of the new year with my family. We had an abundant lunch together, me, my husband, my kid and my in-laws. I cooked the lentils because the Italian believes that lentils bring money, so we had had a full bowl of them! If I had been with my mother, she would have bought me a new t-shirt or something new to wear because the Chinese believes that they should wear a new piece of clothes to make a good start of the year. Well, I just wore my new overcoat yesterday, perhaps I should have worn it today! However, this doesn't count that much. Each folk has its own beliefs because it's a kind of mental support.

Our first guests of the year who came to visit us are an old friend of my father-in-law and his wife. They're very kind and nice. I knew them for the first time a little bit before my first Christmas in Italy. My little child was still a baby. They invited all our family at their restaurant the day after Christmas (Santo Stefano's Day). That Christmas I had another good memory; that is my dear friend who came to stay with me during her holidays. She was studying in France. It's been 10 years ago.

I spent my New Year's day with a good company. It's a good start because we caught up so many things (the last time we met was few years ago) and we've laughed a lot :-D

That's all for now. Another (extra)ordinary day of mine is going to finish.

The beginning

Hello visitors,
I've always loved reading and writing since I was small. At school I was good at English language and I decided with determination that I would further my studies in foreign languages since I was at the primary school. I always read any signs in English and learned the language this way. My childhood dream was to become a news reporter, journalist or writer.

After my graduation, I worked for 2 years at Bangkok before my marriage and moving to Italy, my husband's homeland! Yes, my life changed a lot. I became a full-time housewife and mom. I'm extremely happy with my peaceful family life. I never imagined myself this happy as a housewife before.  I've been encouraged by friends and my uni professors to write a book. Well, I've deeply wanted to write, but I don't know yet about what and how to begin. After so many years I'm not sure if I still possess my writing skill. Fortunately these days we've more ways to publish our stories, ideas, etc.

Therefore, I'm writing a blog! I don't know exactly yet what kind of blog it would be, either in what language I should write. For now I decided to begin in English because it can reach both my Thai and Italian friends, even world-wide readers. However, I may sometimes switch to write in Thai, my mother language, and in Italian as well. It's still to see. I think I should write about what I know well, so I'm going to tell about my daily life. My stories can be only some ordinary things happened in such ordinary days, or perhaps special events might come across, who knows! At least, I can use this board just as my memory.

I hope to have something to share soon.
Enjoy your days and Happy New Year!
